Q. What are the different products used for anti-wrinkle injectable treatments?
In Australia, there are three major brands that distribute the TGA approved products used to administer anti-wrinkle injections. These prescription only medications are safe when administered by a trusted medical professional. They work by blocking the release of acetylcholine, which inhibits muscle contractions. Treatment dosage varies depending on specific factors such as your age, skin quality, and personal aesthetic goals. A comprehensive consultation, including a medical evaluation and prescription, is necessary for optimal outcomes.
Q. How do anti-wrinkle injections work?
Dynamic (temporary) and static (deep set) wrinkles are caused by repetitive facial muscle movements. Over time, these expressions instigate the breakdown of collagen. Simultaneously, as you mature your body starts to slow down, taking longer to naturally produce the essential scaffolding fibres that once supported your skin. That’s where injectables come in! Interrupting the ageing process by blocking the release of acetylcholine (the neurotransmitter responsible for muscle contraction), these injections temporarily paralyse specific muscles, so your fine lines and wrinkles are safely and effectively prevented and reduced.
Q. What are the results from anti-wrinkle injections?
Anti-wrinkle injections are a popular choice for patients seeking a quick, and highly effective way to prevent and soften fine lines and wrinkles. Tailored to achieve individual aesthetic desires, wrinkle relaxers could be a suitable choice if you’re wanting to address the lines between your brows (vertical glabellar lines), forehead (horizontal furrows), around your mouth (smokers’ lines), the outer corners of your eyes (crow's feet), and the sides of your nose (bunny lines). Advanced techniques also utilise anti-wrinkle injections to treat excessive sweating (axillary hyperhidrosis), slim the jaw line (masseter reduction), augment your smile (gummy smile), lift your brows (non-surgical brow lift), remodel your chin (dimpling), and other TGA approved medical procedures.
Q. How long does it take for anti-wrinkle injections to take effect?
Anti-wrinkle injections gradually start to take effect within 1-3 days of your procedure and reach maturity over 1-2 weeks (keeping in mind that results can vary). Lift Aesthetics Sydney fosters an open dialogue with patients, encouraging feedback so that adjustments can be made to ensure that your desired outcomes are achieved.
Q. How long will the results from my anti-wrinkle injection results last?
Anti-wrinkle injections last around 3-6 months on average. If you’ve requested a lower dosage to achieve a more natural finish, it's important to note that this could also result in reduced longevity of your results. Given that your anatomy is divinely unique and will respond to product type and dosage differently to anyone else, it’s impossible to give specifics about how long your results will last. Frequency of injectables treatments, in combination with other lifestyle factors and complimentary modalities will mean longer intervals between required sessions over time.
Q. How long does an anti-wrinkle injectables treatment take to have done?
After your consultation is complete, a standard anti-wrinkle treatment takes as little as 10 to 20 minutes. Many patients schedule their injectables session during lunch breaks, given the short amount of time, minimal discomfort, and downtime required.
Q. Are anti-wrinkle injections painful?
Lift Aesthetics Sydney will work with you to ensure that you are as comfortable as possible during your procedure. We offer prescription grade numbing cream and other methods of pain relief to assist with any anxiety or discomfort you may feel during treatment.
Q. How old do I need to be to have anti-wrinkle injections?
Lift Aesthetics Sydney provide anti-wrinkle injections for patients who are 18 years old and above.
Q. What do I need to keep in mind after having anti-wrinkle injections?
Immediately after your anti-wrinkle injectables treatment, you’ll be given aftercare instructions which are important to follow. You should plan to remain in an upright position for 4 hours after your treatment. Injection sites must be kept clean to prevent the administered product from spreading and to evade infection. Refrain from strenuous exercise, face-down activities, saunas, sweating, and alcohol for the first 24 hours. Certain medications, excessive sun exposure, and other facial or aesthetic treatments should be avoided for up to 2 weeks.
Q. Are there contraindications that would prevent me from having anti-wrinkle injections?
Pregnancy, lactation, neuromuscular diseases like Myasthenia Gravis (MG) or Eaton-Lambert Myasthenic Syndrome (LEMS), previous allergies to anti-wrinkle injections, aminoglycoside antibiotic use, and infection at the injection site are all contraindications for these treatments. It’s important to discuss your medical history with your Practitioner, who will be able to confidently recommend alternate, safe, options to address your skin concerns and desires if anti-wrinkle injections aren’t suitable for you.
Q. What are the side effects after having anti-wrinkle injections?
Unlikely side effects following anti-wrinkle injections (local to the injection site) could include a headache, fatigue, flu-like symptoms, tenderness, bruising, swelling, and redness. Each of these indications typically resolve within 24 hours. Itching, drooping, and skin rashes occur less frequently, and muscle weakness is rare.
Q. What are the adverse reactions to look out for after having anti-wrinkle injections?
Adverse reactions following your anti-wrinkle treatment are rare. If you experience prolonged redness, swelling, heat, itching, bruising, swelling, altered vision, difficulty speaking, or swallowing around the treatment area, please contact Lift Aesthetics Sydney immediately to schedule a review appointment. Wrinkle relaxers have been deemed safe by the TGA, and when administered by an authorised, experienced Practitioner, you should not expect any major or harmful side effects.
